On May 20, the customs statistical data platform updated the import and export data. The export value of China’s COVID-19 reagents in May was 1.394 billion yuan, which is less than 10% of the value in January. This is also the first time since 2021 that the export value of COVID-19 reagents in a single month has fallen below 2 billion CNY.
In terms of provinces, only Zhejiang, Guangdong, Beijing, Jiangsu, and Fujian exported more than 100 million CNY in May, and the export volume shrank sharply. Among them, Zhejiang, Beijing, and Fujian saw a month-on-month decrease in the export value of COVID-19 reagents, which is over 50%.
In terms of export markets of May, reagents were mainly sold to Germany, the United States, and Hong Kong, China. The import volume of these three countries and regions was more than 100 million yuan. Compared with April, the value of imports of the United States has dropped by more than 20%, and the value of imports from Germany and Hong Kong, China has both dropped by more than 50%.
"The overseas demand for COVID reagents shrank extremely in May. Recently, overseas epidemics have shown signs of rising, and the demand for antigen reagents is slowly increasing." An IVD head enterprise told us that for some countries that have relaxed epidemic prevention, the import volume of China's COVID reagents has dropped significantly. Recently, the domestic price war has hit overseas, and the price of overseas antigen reagents is falling rapidly.
