Roche announced on Tuesday that it has received CE marking for its Ventana DP 600 slide scanner for digital pathology.
The 240-slide scanner produces images of stained histology slides from patient tissue samples and can be combined with Roche's artificial intelligence-based image analysis algorithms in the anatomical pathology laboratory. The new scanner builds on the previous six-slide Ventana DP 200 scanner, using the same optics and focus technology for high-resolution color images, the company said in a statement.
Both scanners use tray-based systems that move slides through the system without interference from a robotic mechanism, which allows for higher-quality scans even if the slides are wet or frozen, or if cover slips are slightly off center, Roche said. The system also eliminates slide-handling errors like breakage and loss of slides.
Roche's full digital pathology solution includes slide scanners, the AI algorithms, and pathology workflow software that can work with the full Roche tissue diagnostics portfolio.
"This solution can help ensure that each patient receives the most effective treatment plan possible," Roche Diagnostics CEO Thomas Schinecker said in a statement. "It also creates opportunities for better collaboration and remote diagnosis, which can be lifesaving in areas with limited access to pathologists."
