On December 2, 2025, Merck announced that Rogier Janssens will officially assume the role of President of Merck China starting February 1, 2026.
Over its 92 years in the Chinese market, Merck has remained deeply rooted in and committed to serving China. The company’s three major business sectors—Life Science, Healthcare, and Electronics—are highly aligned with China’s national strategies, providing strong momentum for long-term investment and local innovation.

To better and more efficiently serve customers and patients, Merck has decided to appoint Rogier Janssens as President of Merck China effective February 1, 2026. In addition, he will also serve as Head of Life Science China starting January 1, 2026. This change will bring the key position of China President closer to the front line of business, enhancing Merck’s agility and responsiveness to market needs.
Mr. Janssens previously led Merck China’s Healthcare business for five years (2017–2022). Returning to China in his new role, he will lead the team in fully advancing Merck’s vision in China, accelerating cross-business and cross-functional collaboration, and driving sustainable growth.

The current President of Merck China, Marc Horn, will return to Germany for family reasons. Over the past two years, Mr. Horn has made outstanding contributions to Merck’s business operations and corporate reputation in China.
China has always been at the core of Merck’s global vision and future growth strategy. Over the past decade, Merck has invested nearly RMB 7 billion in China, expanded its presence across multiple regions, and deepened local partnerships. Today, Merck has nearly 4,500 employees and 21 legal entities in China. Looking ahead, Merck will continue to deepen its commitment to China, spark innovation, and enhance human well-being.
